the persistence of your Authentic Life

“What you resist persists.” - Carl Jung You can resist your Authentic Life, but it will persist and continue to call out. Denying your Self the opportunity to live your Authentic Life is one way to guarantee regret later in life. And, as Bronnie Ware has noted, the resistance to your Authentic Life is one of the biggest regrets of the dying. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC

I hope you're having a great Monday this Memorial Day! This week's Weekly Note is coming to you a day late because I chose to spend Sunday being a true Hoosier — watching and listening to the Indianapolis 500. We spent the day in and out of the pool, cooking out, working out, and sitting under the stars. If you are a longtime Weekly Note subscriber, you know that I have no problem sending the Note a day late or even missing a week. I know this is not what writers are supposed to do. But I...

“Your life’s journey has an outer purpose and an inner purpose. The outer purpose is to arrive at your goal or destination, to accomplish what you set out to do, to achieve this or that, which, of course, implies future. But if your destination, or the steps you are going to take in the future, take up so much of your attention that they become more important to you than the step you are taking now, then you completely miss the journey’s inner purpose, which has nothing to do with where you...

I don’t do this often, but today’s Note is actually an Omen I posted last night. The Omens, which you can find on my website, are meant to be discovered on their own, are only distributed in my Weekly Note, and are more like the blogs I started with when I first started writing. They are meant to be observations and interests of mine. Last night, I wrote one to my Self but feel it might be meaningful to others. Every once in a while, I think to my Self, “Why do I keep doing all of this?” Why...

I’ve struggled to fully understand how the world is a reflection of my Self. I kind of understood it and believed it was true, but I was looking at the statement from the wrong perspective. I have always looked at it as the characteristics of the people I see, or the world I see, are supposed to be similar to or represent me. And while I do think individuals reflect aspects of our Selves that we like and even don’t like, this morning I developed a new understanding of this mirror phenomenon....

Before you can become the version of your Self you desire, you have to first believe you are already that person. At a minimum, you have to believe you are capable of becoming that person, but truthfully, I don’t think that is strong enough. I think you need to actually believe that you are the version of your Self you are before you actually see it. Once you believe, you will naturally begin to draw on that future version of your Self, feeling as you would, doing what you would, and...

Change happens when the discomfort of not changing becomes greater than the discomfort of the change. This is my favorite version of this quote—I’ve heard it with fear in place of discomfort. I’ve also heard it with pain in place of discomfort. Each of those is accurate and keeps the truth of the statement. I think I like discomfort because in my mind, discomfort arrives before pain and fear. And rather than wait until I’m in pain or fear is a prominent emotion, I’d rather listen to...

This afternoon, Roman and I headed to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to return home after a weekend of AAU basketball. We walked into complete chaos in the TSA area—it looked like we had gone back a few months to the government shutdown. We were a couple of hours early, but I was nervous that we wouldn’t make it through the line before getting Roman to his gate (more on our separate flights in a moment). The lines weaved without much organization. After getting his boarding pass, we...

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” - Anais Nin You’ll have to take my word for it, but your courage grows exponentially the closer you move to your Authentic Life, which is important because you will need courage to live it. Courage is the ability to act when you don’t know—when you’re stepping into the unknown. Living your Authentic Life will present numerous opportunities to step into the unknown, led by your intuition and your heart. Without courage, you will find...
